Palau de las Artes Reina Sofia Valencia www.lesarts.com Several years ago, when the La Ciutat de les Arts i de les Ciències cultural complex was first conceived, the Generalitat, the Valencian Regional Government, was determined that it should include an outstanding architectural landmark that would be a major centre of the performing arts. This would enable all the various forms of musical expression to be performed in the best technical and artistic conditions. With the opening of the Palau de les Arts , the Consell de la Generalitat has fulfilled one of its most ambitious commitments in its efforts to recognise, support and promote the musical heritage of Valencia , Spain and the rest of the world. Our many talented composers and performers have made an essential contribution to the important place of this musical tradition, opera in particular, in the culture of our cities. The Palau de les Arts was designed to stimulate an entire area of cultural endeavour, both in the sphere of training, and in the promotion and encouragement of our abundant resources available to us. At the same it is hoped that the private sector will contribute to this initiative, bringing this project to fruition, giving the city of Valencia an opera house with a regular programme designed to meet the demand in the Comunitat Valenciana and making it an indisputable landmark for opera fans around the world.
